Welcome back, readers wedding season is officially upon us! Today we will be talking all things wedding, specifically this one is for my readers who will be attending a wedding this summer.
Types of Attire
When attending a wedding, it is a great first step to check the dress code. Three categories can help you pick the perfect outfit for your loved one’s special day. Here is a breakdown of the most common categories:
- Black-Tie: With this theme, think tuxedos and long formal gowns. I would go for an elegant or classic look for this event. Satin or silk is a great fabric choice for this type of event.
- Semi-Formal/Cocktail: A knee-length dress is a great option for this wedding. This dress code is similar to black-tie but more relaxed. I would aim for a stylish but polished look, paired with a bold lip and open-toe heels.
- Casual/Beach: For this attire, it is acceptable to wear sandals, wedges, and sundresses. Relaxed and comfortable styles are most appropriate at this wedding, especially if the event takes place at the beach. A casual wedding is the perfect opportunity to incorporate a straw crochet shoulder bag into your look.

This photo was taken at a beautiful fall wedding. I wore a long, one-shoulder black dress paired with strappy heels and a small over-the-shoulder bag, simple, sleek, and timeless. To stay cozy in the crisp autumn air, I brought along a lightweight shawl, perfect for those breezy outdoor moments.
Avoid the Color White
Unless otherwise stated on the wedding invitation, it is generally polite to avoid wearing the color white to the wedding, as it is typically reserved for the bride. If you are unsure about the outfit, it is better to be safe and let the bride be the main event of the day by opting for a more colorful option!
Pay Attention to the Venue
Whether the event is outside on the beach, or in a ballroom, it can call for very different attires.
- Outdoor Wedding: For outdoor weddings, it is so crucial to consider the sun. That can include packing sun-screen, sunglasses, and your favorite tinted lip gloss with SPF. Lighter fabric, such as linen, is quintessential for this event.
- Indoor Wedding: For an indoor wedding, it can be helpful to bring a lightweight shawl, jacket, or sweater to throw on if you are feeling chilly.
Writer’s Thoughts
I personally love attending weddings. They are a fun chance to dress up and see our friends and family. My current favorite styles for a wedding guest dress include:
- For a Fun Look: A fitted bodice with a cascading, tiered maxi skirt
- For a Flirty Look: Ruching on the side of a one-shoulder midi dress
- For a Formal Look: A sleeveless, one-shoulder satin gown
Thanks for reading, please keep in mind these are all just my thoughts and opinions! As always, I appreciate your feedback.
